Universal Studios created and truly defined the horror film genre beginning in the 1920s. In 1935, the versatile actress Elsa Lanchester portrayed a character that has become the female icon for the genre. Her haunting performance would earn her both a legion of fans and a place in history as the epitome of every bridegroom's nightmare.

The Bride of Frankenstein is the story of a hideous attempt to create a companion for the monster Frankenstein. Her regally draped body and mummy-wrapped arms rise slowly. Her windswept hair is electrified, accentuated by silver streaked lightning bolts. Her slanting eyebrows and rose-red lips register confused terror of a woman brought forth from the dead, suddenly alive, dressed as a bride, betrothed to a strange, grotesque monster.
